Luke Kuo

Luke Kuo is Of Counsel at The Berglund Group.  Mr. Kuo is an experienced litigator specializing in complex civil litigation in state and federal courts in California.  Mr. Kuo has extensive experience representing business entities, healthcare providers, startups, and licensed professionals in general commercial, employment, contract, and real estate litigation and ADR proceedings.  

After earning his Juris Doctor cum laude from University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where he served as the Lead Articles Editor of the Pittsburgh Journal of Law and Commerce, Mr. Kuo served as an appellate staff attorney at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit in Atlanta, Georgia, where he worked on more than 130 appeals encompassing a diverse spectrum of matters, including direct criminal and sentencing appeals, habeas corpus, civil rights, employment discrimination (Title VII, ADA, ADEA, and the Equal Pay Act), immigration, and Social Security.

After relocating to Los Angeles in 2011, Mr. Kuo completed two federal judicial clerkships at the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, where he drafted proposed orders and opinions in habeas corpus, civil rights, and Social Security matters; assisted with significant motion practice and discovery disputes; and supported criminal-duty matters involving applications by federal agents for search and arrest warrants.

Between his clerkships, Mr. Kuo worked as a litigation associate at a nationally recognized litigation boutique ranked “Tier One” in Los Angeles by U.S. News & World Report, where he handled complex, high-stakes civil litigation and white-collar criminal defense in federal and state court. His practice included trial and appellate litigation, regulatory enforcement, internal investigations, asset seizure and forfeiture proceedings, class actions, shareholder derivative actions, SEC and IRS whistleblower matters, and labor and employment litigation. His representative matters included serving as lead associate in a landmark civil rights class action on behalf of more than 1,200 civil detainees at a maximum-security state facility and challenging DOJ’s pre-indictment seizure of more than $100 million in bank funds.

Mr. Kuo is a member of the California State Bar and is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Central and Northern District of California (CDCA & NDCA) and Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.  Mr. Kuo has been recognized as a California Elite Lawyer in Civil Litigation since 2021. Mr. Kuo is fluent in Mandarin Chinese. In his spare time, Mr. Kuo enjoys coaching his son’s youth basketball team and catching rare Pokemon together.
